Ronda Rousey Reveals She Picks Her Own Opponents In WWE

Ronda Rousey’s career in the WWE has been a rollercoaster, or more precisely, how fans feel about her. The Rowdy One made her professional wrestling debut in a tag battle that stunned the majority of viewers, but by the time she fought at WrestleMania 35 a year later, the novelty had worn off for many fans. Rousey came back, won the Royal Rumble this year, and is now the SmackDown Women’s Champion once more.

Rousey continues to wrestle more frequently than most people probably thought, despite the fact that she doesn’t compete every week. Even if you don’t like her, WWE has done a pretty good job of keeping her feeling special despite her appearances on a semi-regular basis. Rousey presumably decides who gets to stand next to her during those occasions.

Rousey recently admitted on her YouTube channel that she has the option of choosing her WWE opponents. (H/T to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription.) Rousey said, “I’m spoiled in that I get to pick who I want to work with like, ‘Hey I think this person’s fantastic and has a lot of promise. The SmackDown Women’s Champion cited Raquel Rodriguez as an instance of a recent opponent she pushed for.

Picking Raquel Rodriguez

“Anyway, I like Raquel. She is so very powerful, so I’ve been wanting to work with her for a while since I won’t have to worry about injuring her. As a former UFC champion, Rousey’s wrestling technique is undoubtedly somewhat rigid. She doesn’t aim to damage her opponents with such remark; rather, she is implying that Rodriguez can take more of what she throws at her because she is a bigger opponent.
