According to Tamika Tremaglio, executive director of the NBPA, “Sorare has developed a creative gaming experience that gives a whole new method for fans globally to interact with and learn more about our players.” We are very enthusiastic about this collaboration and the impact Sorare will have on the expansion of the players and the game on a worldwide scale.
Users will construct a team of NFT-based collectibles portraying NBA superstars who score points depending on their actual performances in the fantasy game. The game will be available in October, just in time for the 2022–23 season.
The NBA joins Major League Baseball (MLB) as the most recent elite sports league to collaborate with Sorare. Germany’s top-tier soccer league Bundesliga and La Liga, the Spanish counterpart, leveraged Sorare’s NFT capabilities last year.
Sorare creates NFT-based sports games with permission from significant teams and leagues. According to the company, there are 2 million registered users across 185 nations.
Through the digital collectibles website Top Shot, where customers can buy game highlights on the Flow blockchain, the NBA has already built a strong presence in the world of digital assets. Sales on Top Shot eclipsed $1 billion in May.
