Instagram is Testing A Monetization Feature For Creators Called ‘Gifts’

Instagram, TikTok’s main competitor, is working hard to make its app more convenient and engaging. According to recent reports, Instagram is testing a new monetization feature called Gifts. This new feature will give Instagram creators a new way to make money. The test feature would allow Reels creators to earn money.

A Meta representative also confirmed that “this feature is an internal prototype that is not being tested externally.”

Previous reports indicated that Instagram was working on the feature under the guise of “content appreciation.” The company has since changed the name of the feature. The feature would allow creators to enable or disable the ability for their fans to send them “Gifts.” Creators will also be able to check if they are eligible for the feature in their settings, under a new Gifts tab. Furthermore, users would be able to send Gifts by clicking a button at the bottom of Reels.

Instagram has already introduced Badges, a feature that allows users to show support to creators during a live video. Badges can be purchased for $0.99, $1.99, or $4.99. When you buy a badge during a live video, a heart icon appears in the comments next to your name.

However, when this feature will be available to creators is unknown. However, because the feature is in internal testing, it will undoubtedly take a long time. Perhaps that feature will be available in the second quarter of 2023.
