Windows 11 Latest Feature is Bing and Edge-Only Search Box
There are several new features in the Windows 11 preview releases that customers can try out. Some, like HDR sliders, are amazing. Others, though, like the most recent instances when it broke some Microsoft Store apps, are less so. But preview upgrades are intended for just that. They permitted Microsoft to test out novel concepts in front of a small audience to determine what works and what doesn’t. Bing for Microsoft Edge is one such feature that is present in the most recent insider build.
Microsoft Bing and Edge
The source claims that in the Dev Channel of the 25120 upgrades, Microsoft has graciously added a search box widget to the Windows 11 desktop. Microsoft’s Bing web browser powers this box, which is visible in Edge. When entered, it will generate a number of drop-down options. Additionally, it ignores default browser settings, so even if those have been changed, Microsoft’s programmes will still appear in the search bar by default.
According to the Windows Insider blog, “We are glad to obtain your input on this interaction model, so please utilise the Comments Hub to offer feedback if you receive this sample.” They’ll surely get comments. Being compelled to utilise Bing and Edge once more will anger many people, especially on own personal computers.
These Features can be Disabled
Thankfully, the feature may be turned off, even if in this version it seems to be activated by default. Additionally, it is only a test feature for a future build. It’s unlikely to be issued in light of the anticipated criticism from certain testers. Only a few insiders have had a chance to use the search bar. It’s already a contentious decision that has received a lot of backlash on Twitter.
This new feature will irritate people who don’t use Windows 11 as well. Competitor browsers have already grown frustrated with Microsoft’s handling of the default browser choices in Windows 11. Therefore, if this functionality is included in later releases, it won’t simply be users who complain.
