WhatsApp Introduces Grocery Shopping For The First Time

The capability was initially tested by the joint venture between Meta and JioMart two years ago with a small group of consumers. The world’s first end-to-end buying experience on a well-liked chat platform is now available. Now, WhatsApp users in India can explore the whole JioMart food inventory inside the app, add goods to the cart, and complete purchases all without ever leaving WhatsApp.

In a statement, Mark Zuckerburg, CEO of Meta, said:

We are eager to begin our collaboration with JioMart in India. People may now purchase groceries from JioMart directly in a chat, marking our first-ever end-to-end buying experience on WhatsApp. Business messaging is gaining a lot of traction, and in the next years, chat-based interactions like this will predominate in how people and businesses communicate.

The feature is currently only accessible in India, as was already indicated, and it is unknown when it will be made available in Pakistan and other nations. If it succeeds in India, it’s very possible that it will spread to other countries as well.

With more than 400 million members, Jio Platforms is India’s largest telecom provider, and Meta is one of its largest minority investors. On Monday, Jio stated that it would invest $25 billion to begin 5G services in India by October and plans to roll out the next generation mobile network in “every team” by the end of 2023.

The $221 billion Indian behemoth JioMart, on the other hand, aims to directly compete with Amazon and Flipkart.
